How to properly glue a felt acoustic panel – step by step

Installing TileFlex acoustic panels made from PET felt is a simple process, but one that requires precision. Proper preparation and application of the adhesive ensure a durable, attractive and secure installation. At FeltDecor, we recommend installing the tiles using the adhesive method – in accordance with the official TileFlex instructions.

1. tool preparation

Before you begin installation, prepare:

A level, measuring tape, pencil, ruler and wallpaper cutter,

polymer mounting adhesive, such as FixAll Turbo 290 ml,

A clean, dry cloth for possible removal of excess glue.

2. surface preparation

The surface of the wall must be clean, dry and degreased, free from dust, dust, paint residue and grease.
In the case of raw plaster, it is recommended to prime it. This is important because excessive absorbency can weaken the adhesion of the adhesive.

Tip: dirt and dust are the most common cause of panels peeling off later.

3. plan the layout of the panels

Before you apply the glue, lay the panels on the floor and plan the layout of the pattern.
Determine whether the composition will run from wall to wall, or arranged in geometric disarray. The first panel is crucial, the correct alignment of the other elements depends on it.

Apply glue to the back side of the panel, not to the wall.
Keep a distance of 2-3 cm from the edge to avoid flowing out.
The glue layer should have:

Up to 0.5 cm thick – with a smooth wall,

Up to 1 cm thick – for rough surfaces.

According to our recommendations: too thick layer of glue can lead to uneven adhesion of the panel and the formation of gaps.

Apply the panel to the wall surface andPress firmly for about 30 seconds .
Make sure each panel is aligned with the others – especially with geometric layouts or 3D patterns.
When installing an acoustic ceiling, it is recommended to lightly support the panel until the adhesive has initially set.

6. setting time and control

FixAll Turboadhesive achieves a strong grip after just a few seconds, but gainsfull strength after a few hours.
Do not move the panels during this time. Once it has set, check that all the parts are evenly aligned.

If excess glue has flowed out at the edge, remove it immediately with a soft, dry cloth – without spreading it over the felt.
